Amazon EBS provides highly available, reliable block-level storage volumes for use with AWS EC2 instances. Disks can be backed by either hard disks or SSDs. It provides storage elasticity by allowing resizing and migration between volume types on-the-fly.
EBS volume snapshots are replicated across availability zones, but the volume is only live in the AZ in which it is created. A 99.999% availability guarantee is made.
EBS allows taking PIT snapshots from which new volumes may be created.
EBS volumes are encrypted at-rest and in-transit, with encryption operations taking place on the EC2 host.
Provisioned IOPS SSD (IO1 and IO2) can be attached to up to 16 Linux EC2 Nitro instances in some regions.
