Office
Obtaining
Office is distributed from a range of locations:
- Microsoft Accounts for personal or family editions.
- The Office Portal for Microsoft 365 business editions.
- Office Setup for products activated via product keys rather than digital entitlements.
Macros
Office Macros allow automating Office applications. In recent versions the paths they're loaded from are managed under File -> Options -> Add-ins -> Manage: Templates -> Go.... The default template location differs by platform:
- macOS:
~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content.localized/Templates.localized
- Windows:
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Templates
This contains two files: Normal.dotm
for Word, and NormalEmail.dotm
for Outlook.
Macros can be viewed, edited and created under View -> Macros.
Removing invalid product keys
When switching from e.g. ProPlus to 365 licensing it might be necessary to remove the old license. Even if it's no longer valid, Office doesn't seem to remove it.
First, use ospp.vbs /dstatus
to get the "Last 5 characters of installed product key", then use ospp.vbs /unpkey:XXXXX
to remove it. You may need to repeat this if there are multiple installed product keys. You should then be able to open an Office application and either enter a product key or login to 365 obtain a new license.
